Pitch Black – a great play in every respect

Gelungene Aufführung des "Vienna's English Theatre"

On November 16th we had the pleasure to attend the annual play of "Vienna's English Theatre". Four experienced and good-looking actors performed Pitch Black by Clive Duncan, a modern version of Shakespeare's world-famous Othello.
Pitch Black is dramatic and entertaining at the same time and deals with various themes such as love, jealousy, friendship and trust. It is about the new manager of England's football team, Donatello Moor, who is in love with international model Mona Deeds. They couldn't be happier, if there just were not Donatello's black skin and the fact that his racist former team mate David Jago wants to put a spoke in the couple's wheel. He is of the opinion that the English football team should have a white manager and he doesn't agree with Donatello dating the beautiful and famous Mona Deeds. With the help of the ignorant captain of the English team, Michael Cassio, Jago sets up a trap and, in the end, unfortunately succeeds in destroying Donatello's life.
Those who expected a positive ending might have been a little disappointed, but the ones who are into Shakespeare know that he is not the man for happy-ending stories. Nevertheless, after the last scene, everyone was totally enthusiastic about the play and the great effort of the convincing actors.
